Namaste! wow. I can't believe nobody else from our batch of volunteers has done a blog yet!
We are in our 9th week here and boy have I seen a lot! Let me cast my mind back to the beginning.  Once we arrived in Nepal, everyone was VERY tired due to the lack of sleep and flight delays in Delhi, India. We were taken straight to the Tibet Holiday Inn in Kathmandu. Immediately, I noticed how different England is to Nepal. One of the...

INDIA BLOG - WEEK 7

Once again I got Delhi belly, but considering I spent the whole day and night in, I didn’t get that bored. If I had an evening in at home with limited internet and no TV I would go out of my mind but here we just end up amusing ourselves.

I decided to have glance at Indian Marie Clare; firstly I was astonished that this even existed and secondly how similar it is to the UK version. The cover is plastered in...

One more Blog won’t hurt!

It is a Friday, which can only mean another cheeky little blog for those of you who have been taking notice! It’s been quite eventful again and I hope that I can make my blog a little witty for you all. I will make it honest so everything you read is true!

Well where to start! I think that out of the events happening last week I should start with India’s reaction to Michael Jackson passing away, rest in...

Namaste! Well the first Platform2 group in Nepal (makes it that extra bit special)...also means everything’s not just new for us but new for everybody! We are now in our 9th week so one more week left, I'd be a liar if I didn't say I'm looking forward to going home but I'll miss this place and the Nepali life also my amazing Nepali family!

The response to us has been great - they have been so welcoming and helpful. OK we do get a lot...

Hi guys, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch. It's a disgrace, I know! Finding time to write a blog page has been harder than I initially thought, so I apologise once again for how late this is. Ok so we are already 8 weeks into our trip, so please forgive me if I'm vague when describing certain things, or as you can imagine, I would have to write something like 10,000 pages LOL!

Can’t believe we've only got 2 weeks left...

Sincere apologies to those who have been awaiting a blog from the Sirutar, Kathmandu, Nepal (to be precise) project. I was shocked and appalled to learn that nobody from our humble band of labourers, teachers and all round good guys hadn't obliged with some warm messages of encouragement for the next groups to throw caution to wild abandon and part-take in some do-gooding. Joking aside, it is quite late, with just over two weeks left here,...

Random thoughts from Peru, 7th July 2009

Listening to music is often a passive but extremely powerful activity. So far in life I had never fully appreciated the strong appeal it holds to so many. I have always seen it as a past time that has the ability to take control of your feelings, to transport you from a happy place to a sad place all within the length of a song that lasts only a few minutes. Present circumstances have allowed me...

Namaste ji! Throughout the night there was a terrible storm; the worst so far, thunder and lightning constantly. Typically this fell on the day we had planned for the hot water springs, through the journey the weather cleared up but the roads (if you can call them that) were so dangerous. The journey was one of the most terrifying things since being in India our lives were in someone else’s hands; gradually getting higher and higher until...

WEEK 5

On Friday morning we arrived at the Day Care Centre to discover the Pawana's (the manager of the centre) brother-in-law had died from drink driving; which was devastating for the family as death is, but his wife was expecting any day.

Even still today in India women are regarded as subordinate to men; widowed and abandoned women even resort to suicide because of the way they are treated and regarded in society. In a land...

BlogNumeroDeux! Hey guys! Me again, coming at you with another blog of my Indian ways and travels etc! I’m not writing it up as days any more because everything is very similar each day, instead I will bunch everything together and you’ll get a sub-plot type story! Nice!

Palampur
Camp Bandla is the tiny little village we’re staying in for the 9 weeks we’re here, which is in Palampar. The village has a few shops, a tailors, a...
